The Pit will be hosting the Powerlifting Event for the Indiana Senior State Games once again this year. Powerlifting is now competed in the Senior Olympic Games which are held every two years. The event is on Sunday, June 7.
While the National Senior Games are only for those 50+ yrs of age, we contest 40+ years of age at the state level. We are capping the event at 60 lifters. You may compete in full power or combination of single events. We will also hold the "strict curl" event as we have in the past (although it does not count for full power).
We will follow USAPL rules although we do not require a singlet, nor will there be drug testing (as the National Senior Games does not drug test).
Several lifters from the Pit Barbell Club lifted in the USAPL Indiana State Championship in Indy this weekend. The goals these lifters had was really to have acceptable qualifying totals for various meets coming up this year. As a result, the training was not as intense and the focus was on qualifying. Having said that, we still had impressive results. Before listing each lifter results, a special thanks to Derrick Hill who drove up to assist the lifters as Coach Stagg was busy with his own qualifying lifts.
60kg - Lena Angel has been nursing a back injury for a while and trained her power lifts minimally in prep for this meet. Her 577.5 total was well above the 330lb threshold she needed. She also took second place as her and another lifter (podium winner from last years High School Nationals) tied and Lena was .1lb heavier. Lena feels great now and we expect with normal training she will be hitting much higher numbers this year.
60kg - John Stevens competed in his first meet with the goal of qualifying for the teen/high school national meets. John accomplished both with a 627lb total and also won first place in his division.
67.5kg- We had two lifters competing in this class. Jack Angel's of total 852.5 was good enough to comfortably qualify and also take 2nd place in the class. Nolan Keele claimed the class title with his 963lb total.
75kg - the Pit had two teens and one Master lifter in this class. The 75kg was among the deepest and toughest classes on the day. Josh Wilson only wanted to qualify and he did with a 1040lb total. Shawn Davenport managed a 3rd place podium finish with his total of 1095lbs. Mike Stagg, competing in the Master's class broke all existing state USAPL Master records in route to his 1127lb total and first place finish.
90kg - Addie Fugate has been quietly making quite a mark for herself. She comes in to train and very quietly goes about her business. You would not know she was there is not for her ringing the PR bell! Addie was in one of the deeper womens classes and took first place by a very impressive 100lbs. Her winning total was 676lbs.
